More and more people in our society are taking advantage of advances in plastic surgery to make changes to and improvement sin their appearance. They are utilizing the wonders of modern science to sculpt their bodies in a way that previous generations were not able to do. Plastic surgery should be a guilt free process for those patients who desire it, are in good health, and have realistic expectations on the results they should receive. Unfortunately some people experience disapproval from friends and family after undergoing plastic surgery procedures, and need to know how to deal with this phenomenon.
First and foremost, remember that the person you most need to please is yourself. Next in order would be your spouse. Most people consult with their spouses before having plastic surgery, and generally have approval and an agreement that the procedure would be a positive thing from one’s significant other. When you get past yourself and your spouse then disapproval from friends and family may be painful to some and annoying to others, but it really is no one else’s business. Plastic surgery – to have it or not to have it – is an intensely personal decision and you as the patient are the one most affected by the procedure. So, don’t let the opinions of others bring you down.
Some people express disapproval at plastic surgery because of personal jealousy. There are many people out there who would love to have plastic surgery procedures performed on themselves but can’t afford to have the procedure done. Others refrain due to illogical personal fears of surgery. There are even a few out there who say that a person should “keep the body God gave them†which is akin to those who said the Wright Brothers shouldn’t even attempt flight because, if God had wanted man to fly he would have given us wings.
The same arguments have been used against every advance science has made, sometimes for religious reasons and sometimes just because some people don’t like to experience change. For those people plastic surgery is not a good personal choice, but they should have no influence on you if you believe plastic surgery is right for you. It is after all your body and your appearance, so it should rightly be your decision.
Whatever the decision is regarding plastic surgery, make sure it is the decision you want and not what other people want.
