About the Procedure

In order to obtain more sensuous curves, patients can expect the procedure to take from one to three hours performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

The cost can run from $3,000 to $10,000 depending upon the complexity of the surgery. The ideal candidate for butt augmentation would be a woman who feels that her behind lacks definition and is in overall good general health as this is major surgery.

Implants are silicone shells filled with a firm, flexible material. The implants are inserted through incisions made either inside the crease of the buttocks or where the thigh and cheek meet. The physician forms a pocket for the implant under or on top of the gluteus maximus, making sure that the implant is placed so that the patient won’t sit on them and run the risk of shifting.

Recovery Should be a Consideration

Pain, discomfort, and bruising are to be expected following the procedure. Avoid lying on your back for up to two weeks following surgery, and sit on a soft cushion.

You’ll require about three to six weeks to recover, with the first one to two weeks as downtime following the procedure. Patients are usually able to return to work within two weeks after surgery. Recovery times vary from patient to patient.

All forms of cosmetic surgery carry some degree of risks and complications. The risks for having implants placed in your buttocks include infection and bleeding, common risks for any surgical procedure. Risks of infection are even higher when incisions are made in the gluteal crease.

While all surgery carries risks, side effects are rare and may include inflection, bleeding, shifting of the implants, or rupture of the implants. Following your physician’s post-op instructions religiously may help reduce these risks.

During recovery, it may be necessary to wear a compression garment to provide support while healing and swelling may hinder the results at first. But once the swelling and bruising subside, you’ll experience the increased self-confidence and a more balanced, attractive look.
