Laser ablation is proving to be effective in the war against aging. But the hands have always been a problem. Now many people are using this technique to turn back the hands of time. No longer having to take extreme measures to hide the hands and their signs of aging, many women use the new and quick procedure of laser ablation.
The creators of laser ablation were seeking a safe and fast procedure to eliminate prominent hand veins without the need for serious plastic surgery. The result, laser ablation, utilizes a laser placed on the tip of a wire. The surgeon threads this into the vein, and as the wire is pulled out, slowly, the laser energy heats the vein and blood cells. It damages the inner lining of the blood vessel wall intentionally and when the wire is removed a tight dressing will be applied to the hand. This clamps down on the tissue and causes the vein to collapses. Over a two week period the old vein will die and leave a smooth, younger looking hand.
The recovery period after this procedures takes around two weeks. During this time patients are both able and even encourages to use their hands. They will need to wear a compression garment to decrease swelling and to help the veins to lay flat.
A recent study of sixty veins treated on eight different women in an office surgery environment found that only one vein did not respond and required more invasive surgical procedures. The others reacted as anticipated, with the veins collapsing and eventually going away.
In past times those patients who wished to remove hand veins they found unsightly had to have the veins removed, leaving scars. Also it was common for these patients to experience sclerotherapy which left the hands feeling overly tender and sometimes caused tiny capillaries to appear. The laser ablation procedure however takes away the negative side effects and is proving effective for many women.
A result of aging is loss of fatty tissue in the hands and loss of skin elasticity, which makes veins more prominent. Some women are so concerned that they wear gloves or place their hands palm upward on a table to avoid showing the veins they dislike. Laser ablation should relieve the minds of many women and allow them to go gloveless and show their hands with confidence.
