Plastic surgery blogs abound in this age of surgically-enhanced beauty. One such blog, written by Alabama Plastic Surgeon, Robert Oliver, Jr, MD, is the interesting site called Plastic Surgery 101.
Dr. Oliver alternates between analyses of celebrity plastic surgeries (the good, the bad, and the ugly), the latest news in cosmetic surgery, and explanations of common plastic surgery procedures. His blog posts take somewhat dry medical material and add humor and commentary reflecting his professional opinions on plastic surgery. Professional writers may wince at a few liberties he takes with grammar and punctuation, but it is clear that his expertise is in well-performed plastic surgery.
One recent post, “How BOTOX affects your access to a Dermatologist. (Hint: it’s not in a good way)” begins with a recent article, often quoted in plastic surgery blogs, about how it is easier to get your dermatologist to give you a BOTOX injection than to examine a cancerous mole. Dr. Oliver responds to the article with information about new dermatology students and the lack of experienced, dedicated plastic surgeons and dermatologists. He’s clearly passionate about his profession, medical ethics, and doing the job right.
Designed in a simple Blogspot template, Dr. Oliver chooses blog content over glitzy graphics and fancy blog add-ons. There’s a wealth of posts to browse through, although the long list of post labels can be daunting. Want to read honest posts about cosmetic surgery from a professional? Plastic Surgery 101 is a good choice.
