An increasing number of modern men are taking advantage of plastic surgery to improve their appearances and self-confidence.  Not just for women anymore, let’s take a look at just a few of the many body sculpting procedures used for men.
Men who want to boost the shape and size of their calves can have calf implants. These soft, solid silicone implants are surgically tucked into a pocket overlaying the gastrocnemius muscles. Usually the surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Once complete, the patient must wear a surgical stocking on each calf and keep their legs elevated. Patients can resume moderate walking after a week. It takes four to six weeks to resume weight training or rigorous exercise. After the implant areas heal, the calves have a fuller, more muscular appearance.
Pectoral muscles in the chest create that pumped up appearance many body builders enjoy. Some people only see a modest improvement to these muscles regardless of their training program. Pectoral implants can give these men the bulk they always wanted. There are a variety of shapes and sizes for pectoral implants. The style is determined by your body shape, dimensions and goals. An incision is made under the armpit with a space created under the pectoral muscle to place an implant. A dressing wrap covers the arm for the first 24 hours. Patients can be physically active but not resume full activity until after four weeks.
A gynecomastia is often referred to as a male breast reduction. In days gone by, male breast reduction left a significant amount of scarring and patients needed general anesthesia. Now male breast reduction is typically accomplished by making tiny incisions for liposuction so there is much less scarring. With the liposuction method, there is minimal down time. Most patients can return to work within a week.
Just as liposuction can be used for breast reduction, men can get rid of other fatty areas with liposuction for a more streamlined, slimmer appearance. After losing weight, some men are left with sagging skin and body fat that can be minimized with a body lift and liposuction. Men should meet with a certified plastic surgeon to discuss their goals and options after weight loss.
Before any plastic surgery procedure, patients have a detailed consultation with the plastic surgeon. They discuss their medical history, goals and issues along with the various options available. Patients can review photos of procedures performed, ask questions and find out how long the recovery period will be.
More than ever before, men are making their bodies better and boosting their self-esteem with body sculpting plastic surgery.
