For years, plastic surgery seemed to be reserved for women.  Over the past decade, an increasing number of men are taking advantage of plastic surgery to improve their appearances and their self-images.  Now couples plastic surgery is the latest craze since Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed made it popular in 2007 on their television show Family Jewels.

Getting plastic surgery together is reassuring for many couples.  They can share the experience and help each other with adjustments along the way.  No matter how long a person has been displeased about a particular feature, sharing the a major surgery with someone else can make it easier.  According to Gene Simmons, who was 57 years old at the time of the plastic surgery, “I’d thought about it before.  I was aware I had jowls.”

His wife Shannon is a 50 year old former Playboy Playmate of the Year in 1982.  She quipped about her husband’s jowls, making light of the situation by saying they were, “Like Jabba the Hut!”  Shannon then admits why she went for the plastic surgery herself, “I didn’t want him to look younger than me.” Couples choose to have plastic surgery together to take the edge off with humor and understanding.  There is also the desire to remain youthful and attractive as a couple, much like Gene and Shannon.

When Gene and Shannon decided to have plastic surgery together, they were already together for 24 years and shared two children.  No matter what point a couple is at in their lives, there is always an opportunity to face the world with a new, improved face.  Although this is a growing trend for couples around the globe, Gene and Shannon brought it to the forefront for the media by having their procedures recorded for their A&E reality television show.

Despite the fact the show made it appear that Shannon tricked Gene, the bottom line was they were bot in agreement about having plastic surgery.  Couples should never decide to have plastic surgery together to please the other person.  Both people should have a healthy desire on their own accord to improve their appearance and perspective with plastic surgery.  Only couples who are on the “same page” can derive all the physical and emotional benefits of having plastic surgery together.

Gene Simmons had a facelift, his eyelids lifted and liposuction around his pectoral muscles.  Shannon Tweed got a lower lid adjustment and facelift.  The procedure for Gene was lengthy and he was shown on the television show in a realistic state, with swollen bruises from the surgery.  After recovery, the duo is facing the world with youthful, confident faces.
