Plastic surgery trends for 2008 are quite exciting, with the many researchers coming up with improvements on old treatments and a few intriguing new treatments. Among the trends in the year ahead, fine tuning of Botox treatments, improvement in liposuction treatment and silicone butt implants.

Butt implants are  a cultural phenomenon that is  moving northward. Popular for years in South America, especially in Brazil where women want round, curvaceous buttocks, you can think of butt implants as the South American equivalent of the breast implants popular in North America. The implants have a sold covering since they must sustain weight.

Another new innovation is use of breast implants to deliver drugs to the system. Surgeons are studying the possibility. It is believed that implantation of drugs within the breast implant itself could help relieve the scarring that occurs with the surgery.

Botox popularity increases in both men an women. Most people want a younger looking appearance, especially in the face. Men in their 40’s and 50’s are increasingly choosing to use Botox. It is well known to have a strong safety profile and is the popular choice among many physicians for treating wrinkles. It was of course first used to treat crow’s feet and creases of the eyebrows, but is now making inroads all across the face – pun intended  - of America. People have Botox injections to soften lines around the mouth

Restylane also known as Perlane is also becoming a popular filler for curing wrinkles and facial lines. It acts much like collagen but lasts much longer. Most doctors fine it easier to use than collagen, and even a person’s own body fat has an uncertain life span so as soon as Restylane is approved by the FDA look for a quick rise in popularity.

One company is working on a product made from human foreskin to get rid of wrinkles. Anther is working on a product using human placenta, which is discarded after birth. This company believes that cells from placenta can be injected into the skin and stimulate the patient’s own body to produce more collagen. Placenta will have its own blood supply and so will last longer than fat injections.

Souped-Up Liposuction is also coming. High-powered suction devices that are great for fibrous areas around the male breast, the flank and the love handles leave less bruising and all the surgeon to shape and contour the area.
