The leading reason for cosmetic surgery is to create a balance in the contours and appearance of a patient’s body to achieve the desired results. Buttock augmentation recreates a patient’s silhouette through plastic surgery for various reasons such as increasing buttock fat, to augment the existing buttocks or to create the appearance of proportionate gluteal muscles.
There are two forms of surgical buttock augmentation and patients may either have fat grafting or buttock implants. Fat grafting takes excess body fat from another area of the patient’s body to reinject into the patient’s buttocks for a fuller appearance. Patients seeking a more muscular looking buttocks or who may not have sufficient fat for fat grafting may opt for buttock implants.
To use fat grafting for buttock augmentation, a patient must have a sufficient amount of body fat in their body to harvest for use in the procedure. Fat may be extracted from various areas of the body including the abdomen, thighs, flanks, arms, back and other parts. During fat grafting , the body fat is removed through a form of liposuction using a cannula then the particles of the fat are purified. These purified fat cells are then inserted into the layers of the buttocks with a single incision.
Implants used for buttock augmentation may be made of either solid silicone or a softer form of cohesive silicone inside a silicone bag. When cohesive silicone is used for buttock implants, the results feel more natural. Also, the reported risk of leakage is low. Solid silicone uses the same material as used in male pectoral implants, calf implants and chin implant. A buttock augmentation with solid silicone implants is more resistant to wear and tear than implants will saline or gel filling and the resulting buttock is firmer. During a pre-operative visit, patients who choose buttock augmentation with either type of implants are measured to determine a shape and size to achieve the desired results. Recovery from the procedure typically takes a couple of weeks.
These surgical buttock augmentation procedures are used for patients who lack buttock fat, are unable to develop proportionate gluteal muscles or who simply want more augmentation in their buttock area. Often body builders ask for buttock implants to augment underdeveloped muscles to get a more balanced looks and they may not have enough body fat for grafting. Buttock augmentation also works well for people who want more curves where they may not have any.
