While women have about 90 percent of all cosmetic procedures performed today, the number of men seeking cosmetic procedures increases each year. Men are developing a greater interest in improving certain areas of their body, which differ from the concerns experienced by women. Many men seek pectoral implants to improve the appearance of their chest.
For men who have been unable to build up their chest through weight training or exercise, pectoral implants can give them the size and shape they want. Some men have Poland’s syndrome, which is a group of unilateral congenital abnormalities of the chest wall, and pectoral implants can give them the chest they always wanted.
Men who want pectoral implants may not be simply seeking the appearance of oversized muscles. Certain men have a chest with a hollow appearance and getting pectoral implants can result in either dramatic or subtle results, based on the wishes of the patient. The patient can choose the shape, location and size of pectoral implants used to improve the appearance of their chest. While pectoral implants cannot improve the muscle definition in a patient’s chest, they will provide additional bulk to make it look like the patient has bigger muscles.
Before getting pectoral implants, the patient will discuss their goals with the surgeon and the surgeon will inform the patient about procedures and risks involved. After a thorough exam and discussion, the surgeon will help the patient choose the size and shape of the implants to be used. When the patient returns, the implants are placed. There is minimal scarring involved which is not visible to others. An incision for the implants is made inside the patient’s armpit so the scar is not seen. The implants are placed and the patient will immediately appreciate a larger, more defined chest. Because the pectoral implants used on men are different than the ones used for women, they have a firmer, masculine feel.
It takes a week or so for the pectoral implants to heal so the patient may resume normal activities. Full activity is restricted based on the healing progression and other individual factors. Most patients can resume more strenuous activities within around six weeks. Because pectoral implants are not filled like the ones used on women, they are quite different and the risks are fewer. Side effects from pectoral implants are far less frequent than breast implants used for women.
Whether a man has a physical deformity or just wants a more muscular looking chest, pectoral implants are can help him achieve his goals.
