Winter is a great time to schedule plastic surgery. Patients are spending more time inside than they are spending outside, and the recovery time period will be less of an inconvenience for most people. Also the need to avoid direct exposure to sunlight is easier to fulfill during the winter because there are fewer activities occurring that involve sun exposure.
It is, however, still a good idea to avoid the holiday season when scheduling plastic surgery because so many people are engaged in business, social and family activities to celebrate the holidays. That is easy to do however. Just wait until after the new year occurs in January and schedule then. Keep in mind that Valentine’s Day occurs in February so allow adequate time for recovery so that you’ll be ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special someone, without soreness.
The tradition of using winter as a time for recovery goes back throughout our history. In the ancient past cultures that were at war with each other would stop fighting for the winter. This even occurred to some extent during World War I, when opposing forces celebrated the holiday together before going back to their own lines afterwards to renew their conflict. Explorers and pioneers would frequently stop when they found a good place to spend the winter. The tradition is ingrained in our culture and should be a natural.
If you or someone you know is planning to undergo dermabrasion, a Phenyl chemical peel, or perhaps hair removal through intense pulsed light therapy or laser treatment, then remember that the skin is sensitive and tender. You don’t want to be outside in the bitter cold if you live in an area that has cold winters and winds. Stay inside and do yourself a favor. You’ll heal and recover, and won’t worry about missing those days at the beach that occur in the summer time. Winter is a time for sitting in side, drinking hot cocoa, keeping warm by the fire place and snuggling up in warm blankets. These activities are not strenuous, and will help you heal. Recovery from plastic surgery is a serous matter, so be kind to yourself and use the winter time for this purpose. Then when summer time and spring time occur, you’ll be ready to get out and show off the new you from your plastic surgery procedures.
